Despite my apprehension, I accomplished my first goal: I got into my tiny Volkswagen Beetle, and drove around the block by myself. I was nervous beforehand, but I remembered what I read in the blog about the monster in the closet, and pretended like driving was something I wasn't afraid of.

My next goal is to drive to work on Saturday, a task I have been delegating to my boyfriend for the last six weeks. The only time I drove there myself was for the interview (sweating and shaking, of course). The drive is only 3 minutes at most, but it's a drive I need to be able to make confidently, and on my own, eventually. I am already obsessing over the drive: "Ok, two stoplights, you know how to do those, center merge lane, wait for all the cars to stop hurtling toward you, turn into the shopping center, try to park, done!"

I'll let you guys know, and I look forward to reading more of your stories. You are all a real inspiration to me! I am so glad I have found other people who have been --or are-- where I am.

-Stephanie.

Hi Stephanie...

How about just plan on the sweating and shaking. You KNOW it is going to happen. And then... what will you do about that sweating and shaking?

P.S. I've always loved the Beetle. Although the originals could be a little chilly... LOL

I like my Beetle, but it's so little compared to all of the other cars. It makes me a little nervous.
