I used to have to cross over the Whitestone Bridge from Westchester to work at JFK. I found that the longer the time in between crossing a bridge , the harder it is to cross.
I now mapquest all trips to find out where the bridges are , how high, and if there are alternative routes, no matter how circuitous. Tunnels don't bother me. I used to take any tunnel to avoid a bridge. I also found that it is easier to cross a bridge if it is level across. if it arches, then the ramp up is a million times more difficult than the ramp down...
