All three have to do with focusing in the wrong place.
I tend to overly mind the speedometer, the rear view mirror and watch the movement of the road too close ahead of my car. Each of these habits cause me some dizziness and a flash of fear that I am not focused on the road ahead of me where I should be looking.
Maybe the reason I am more comfortable driving on narrow winding roads even at higher speeds is that on those roads I can't allow myself to attend these distractions so I just don't look too much at ether the rear-view mirror or the speedometer.
But, on the open road, like a freeway, with its straight wide lines and shoulders I allow myself to drift and be distracted by obsessively checking how fast I am going and looking in the mirror to see if a car is coming up behind me and I might feel that I am in its way.
