I am still finding it so much more difficult to drive on open, wide and clear roads then on narrow twisting roads. On the later I find it easier to pick up some speed. The are some roads where I am more confined with a curb and no shoulders where I can find myself doing 90KM (where only 70km is allowed) and other place where 90km is allowed and I don't fell comfortable doing more then 60km.
I am sure that this is not normal, why is this happening?
About the title here, on those open roads I find it hard to turn off my "automatic" tunnel vision front and back in the rear view mirror.

That's actually pretty common, I think it may have something to do with the perspective being more "infinite" on longer roads and large open areas. Remember to do your best to bring your focus back to the moment of something else you value or want to accomplish. Focusing on your anxiety wont do you any good and only serves to perpetuate it.

Hi All,
Have not visited for some time but would like to say that I suffer from this illusion on wide open spaces as well. I have no issues driving in cities but for some reason when there are large stretches of road which are clear ahead of me it's like my eyes go funny, almost like I can't handle it. Very strange - I just thought it's me. It's good to know that someone else is experiencing the same thing so I am not going crazy. I have tried to explain this to other people but they don't understand what I am talking about. You would think it would be easier driving on wide clear roads where you can see for miles. I would like to know a bit more about this illusion theory, why does this happen?
By the way I have been driving futher then normal to more places as well. Chanting the mantra 'Its no big deal'. That seems to work.
