HI Everyone!
Im new here and have had driving phobias for about 10 years now. It started with freeways and now its evolved into ALL DRIVING. Problem is, my 5 year old is starting kindergarten in September and guess who has to get him there!? Soo.. Ive been practicing with my mom all week and will "graduate" next week into driving a little with no passenger (which is my challenge since leaving the house comfortably with out my "safe" person is a problem) Im bound and determined as my 30th bday is on saturday and Im sooo fed up with this issue. Anyways, I havent bought the download because my husband said Ive already wasted enough of the family money on cures for my anxiety. Hopefully I can get it soon. Anyways, I love reading all your postings!

Hello and welcome to the forum ygunter!

I'm sure you will see from the posts you have read that you are well and truely in similar company. It's a good thing that your 'lil one is going to need transporting to kindergarten, because sometimes, it takes a catalyst like that to rev us up into doing something about recovering from our phobia/anxiety. When my driving fear first started, short of piggy-backing the kids to their local school/kindy, I managed to drive them there, leave the car parked there all day and got public transport to work. Over the course of time, my comfort zone increased where I could drive to my work, shops etc and it has continued to increase although the highway still is in front of me as a challenge.

I hope you have a terrific birthday on the week-end. Oh to be 30 again!!! Perhaps you should hint to your husband that a very worthwhile gift would be the Fear of Driving Program!!

Go at your challenges with lots of determination. Good luck and keep posting.

i can totally relate to the "safe person" thing!! but i for a while there nothing helped - not even driving with the people that are closest to me. but these days i feel almost back to my old driving self when i have someone in the car with me....... soo that makes me believe that with time i will be just as fantastic on my own! and i hope that goes for you as well!!

just think of that person sitting right next to you when you are alone and hear them telling you how wonderful you are doing! that always makes me feel much better! know that you are not alone!

have you tried the free email mini series?? it has some good tips that may help in the meantime!

happy soon to be birthday!!! :D

keep on keeping on!!!

Hello,

Welcome to OUR forum. I also do the "safe person" thing. However, I've made two 3 hour trips without one and it was wonderful. I make sure I don't drink caffeine, eat well, have water in the car, soft music, kids in the back (6 & 8) watching a movie with their headsets on and I plug along. I love being out there on the road but when the weird panic feeling starts growing, I immediately go to my safe place and take a deep, slow breath - so far so good. It's very frustrating to feel afraid of nothing.

I've had my phobia off and for years and never knew how bad it was until I started talking about it, BUT once I bought this program it stopped growing (thank GOD), so it's no longer growing. Now it's all about working on eliminating it.

Enjoy your 30th & your child's school year.

Warmly,
Lupe
