Recently I've been experiencing anxiety from many other sources, which have contributed to my 10+ year fear of driving the freeways and larger boulevards in los angeles. I was fired, my ex-employer is suing me after 18 years for a mistake of $150, he denied my unemployment, had to appeal that, and now have to counter-sue, all while looking for a new job in this slow economy. And my mother-in-law passed away on Mother's Day. You think stressed? I have been doing the exercises, but not religiously, so I am going to set my cell phone alarm for every hour to remember to practice the breathing. I also made an appointment with a therapist for the first time in my life for tomorrow. I will get over these fears!

Wow, that sounds like a lot to handle.
All the more reason to slow down, breathe, and be sure to do the exercises. It's times like this that you have to force yourself to be kind to yourself!

I am quite the worrier, an let stress take hold of me. I have at times little patience, an get angry to much. I enjoy driving, but i realize that my other problems do not help with my driving. I also get very nervous about long distant driving, even if its only a 2 an a half hour drive to the coast. I think if they can do it why not me. I'm a good driver, an i do drive on the freeways of fresno ca. There is a trip planned on november 3rd to leave for cayucos ca an its a almost 3 hour drive. I am so scared. I do not know why though. If i do not do this i well be stuck at home whil my sister an mom enjoy there beautiful vacation without me. But its hard to let go of my feelings an frustraions on why i think i cannot do this an if i do i well have anxiety the whole time i am there. Because if i could just learn to let go of my angers an have more patience an relax more i would do better, but its soo hard. LIfe is passing me by, i well be 65 an i want to be totally free, I do not do alot of things because of my thoughts an fears an anxitety. PLease help me on this.

What are you angry about?
Are you already involved with the Driving Fear program? If not and you have a trip in Nov, I think starting sooner than later would be beneficial.
A vacation is a great reward for making progress on your fear, I'm sure your family would love to share the experience with you!

We all know what you are anxious. Our heart pounds before a big presentation or a difficult test. We get butterflies in the stomach during a blind date. Anxiety makes someone want to escape the situation - fast. The heart beats fast, the body may start to sweat, and butterflies in the stomach soon follow. However, a little anxiety can actually help people stay alert and focused.
