Hi,

My name is Anthony and I'm 47 and I seem to have developed a fear of driving with people (passengers) in my car. Especially work colleagues. Business trips, for instance, are quite difficult for me. I guess my fear could be qualified as somewhat of a "social phobia" I suppose. I'm afraid of making mistakes, missing exits and making a fool of myself basically. I've driven for many years and I actually enjoy drivings and cars. But this fear is becoming a bit paralyzing and I'm hoping this forum will be able to help with tips and advise.

Thanks in advance!

Anthony

I think this is a fear that all drivers have, to an extent. No one wants to look stupid, or have their passengers think they are a bad driver. Colleagues will typically cause additional anxiety since they are your peers and you work with them, so you have an even greater desire not to look silly or inept. It can be very hard to get over this kind of fear. Try to build your confidence by driving other people (people you are more comfortable with) around until you become used to them, and then keep trying to drive with maybe just one colleague at a time. Good luck!
